Home portrait Service

Home portraitMc Kernan Photography believe that the more relaxed and comfortable you are with your environment, the better your pictures will be. So thats why we come to your house to photograph you and your family.

So what are the benefits of using the Mc Kernan Photography mobile studio, home portrait service:

  • Easier to get everyone together including children and grandparents at a time that suits you
  • No need to “pack” changes of clothes
  • Kids will be more relaxed in their own environment
  • Family pets can be included in the photos
  • Comprehensive and digital preview sessions
  • Wide selection of products and finishes

How it works?
Our  digital studio sets up quickly and easily in virtually any space allowing you to relax and let the experience unfold around you. The mobile studio consists of a professional  flash lighting system with back-drops and reflectors.

Sessions usually last for about an hour, and during that time we will create a wide range of stunning images. A few days later, after we have selected the best pics of the bunch (between 30 and 50 pictures),  you will receive a  proof CD containing the images of the whole shoot.

Book the right session time for you.
This is especially important when children are involved. Try and choose a time when they are rested, fed and generally full of energy!

Pick out some clothes in advance.
There should be time during the session for at least one change of clothes, so pick out a few options and have them handy. Nice bright colours usually photograph the best. Perhaps you may even try to match the colour scheme of the room in which your photographs will eventually hang!

Most importantly… relax and have fun!
Mc Kernan home portrait sessions are all about having fun and capturing your true spirit! So relax, be yourself and enjoy the experience.

Irish winter wedding, come rain come snow.

In many cultures, rain or snow on your wedding day symbolises good luck and a stronger unity, so if you see a few drops of rain or flakes of snow on your big day, don’t worry, be happy.

That said, if you’re planning a winter wedding in Ireland make sure and be prepared for the worst case scenario: torrential rain, gale force winds, biting frost or driving sleet and snow.

All this may sound like your worst nightmare come true, but it doesn’t have to.  Just remember at all times,  it’s the people who make a wedding not the weather and preparation is everything.

So here are a few pointers to ensure that your big day goes off with a bang and doesn’t end up like a damp squib:

  1. If your venue is remote and inaccessible in the snow make sure to arrange a backup, and don’t leave this to the last-minute as you are likely to be disappointed.
  2. If you’re expecting ice and snow, always ensure that your venue clears and grits all access points – the last thing you’ll want is the bride sliding in to her reception!
  3. If you are having a marquee wedding, make sure that it is up to the task. Get a guarantee from the supplier that it is good quality and will not turn into a kite with the first gust of wind. Make sure there is adequate heating and appropriate  flooring as well as a decked outdoor area with Patio heaters….I recommend http://www.wigwamevents.com/
  4. Have plenty of umbrellas to hand, and I don’t mean the ones from the euro store! In my experience there are none better than Gustbusters, http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gustbusters&x=0&y=0
  5. When planning your wedding photos make sure all locations are easily accessible. If you have to walk down  a country lane or cross a field my advice is forget about it. Keep it simple and keep it near the venue. No one photographs well when they are cold or wet. Find an indoor alternative like your favourite pub or a stately home.
  6. If you have your mind made up on that perfect location and choose to ignore the above advice there are a couple of handy things to have, wedding wellies and solemates…http://thesolemates.com/
  7. Serve hot drinks to guests as they arrive at the reception, mulled wine or hot port may be more appropriate than a glass of bubbly.
  8. Make sure there is accommodation available available for stranded overseas guests. No guests can be expected to foot  the bill for extra hotel nights if inclement weather prevents them getting away after the wedding. If the forecast is bad contact friends with spare rooms or cheap B&Bs in advance.
  9. Have your group photo inside the chapel, guests can’t and won’t hang around outside in the cold and rain. Arrange with the priest or minister to open the balcony  so that the wedding photographer can get capture everyone in from above.
  10. If you want to have a receiving line hold it at the reception, do it inside rather than greeting guests as they enter.
  11. Have  a mechanic on standby in freezing temperatures when cars can be difficult to start. That way, you can be certain everyone gets home safely.
  12. Make the most of the inclement weather for unique photo opportunities, snowball fights, building snowmen, toasting marshmallows at an open fire,  puddle jumping, wedding dress flowing in the wind, running for cover under umbrellas worms eye shots with rolling clouds in the sky etc.etc.
  13. Choose Mc Kernan Photography for your wedding photos. Come rain or shine, nobody does it better!

Dublin Wheelers Cycling Club TT League

Throughout the cycling season, when the opportunity arises Mc Kernan Photography will be posting cycling images from both the Dublin Wheelers TT league and the  IVCA road race league, along with random images featuring cycling in Ireland and particularly Dublin. My first set of images on this my new blog is from Thursday the 15th of May and the Dublin Wheelers Cyling Club TT (time trial) leagues first race of the season, a short 3.7km sprint up the Hill of Howth. The weather was a cool 12 C with a 11kmh SW tail wind which produced some excellent times.
